Case study 03 / Kroger
Verifying transactions from UI to database.
Checking that user actions, API responses, stored transactions, and transformed records agree.

The challenge
Search, cart, checkout, and fulfillment needed consistent validation across the web application, cloud services, and transaction data.
My contribution
- Designed Selenium and Playwright frameworks covering more than 100 core regression scenarios in a suite that ran in under three hours.
- Automated REST API validation with Postman and REST Assured, including business rules and inter-service data.
- Developed SQL checks for orders, transactions, and inventory, and dbt tests for transformation logic and consistency.
- Integrated suites into delivery pipelines and used exploratory testing to uncover checkout and cart edge cases beyond automated coverage.
The outcome
More than 100 core regression scenarios
The resume describes coverage across search, cart, checkout, and orders, with additional exploratory investigations and source-to-target data reconciliation.
Engineering example
Checks behind an order confirmation
ILLUSTRATIVE CHECKLIST UI Correct items, quantities and order total API Accepted order and expected business fields Database Stored order matches the submitted transaction Data Transformed records reconcile to the source
Independent illustration of the approach. No proprietary client code or production data.
The takeaway
The order total should agree across the customer screen, service payload, and stored transaction. Cross-layer checks expose mismatches a browser-only test can miss.
