Case study 02 / Comcast
Validating the connections between systems.
Validating the connections between customer actions, order services, provisioning events, and downstream systems.

The challenge
Carrier migration required validating new-order provisioning while preserving existing account behavior across telecom microservices.
My contribution
- Validated migration to a major carrier, confirming new-order provisioning and uninterrupted service for existing accounts.
- Extended UI and REST API coverage beyond checkout to fulfillment, shipping, and order progression.
- Verified Kafka provisioning events and the downstream service behavior they triggered.
- Checked IMEI deallocation and device-to-IMEI mappings, and led daily defect triage with development, product, and network teams.
The outcome
Coverage across the customer lifecycle
Testing connected checkout to activation, fulfillment, and billing-related behavior, rather than treating a successful order screen as the end of validation.
Engineering example
A representative validation checklist
ILLUSTRATIVE SCENARIO New account → submit order → inspect provisioning event Verify expected carrier and device mapping Check downstream activation state Confirm fulfillment progression Repeat for existing-account behavior
Independent illustration of the approach. No proprietary client code or production data.
The takeaway
A successful API response is one checkpoint. Event payloads and downstream state are needed to understand whether the business process actually completed.
